Electricity rates to decrease in June–July billing

Electricity rates to decrease in June–July billing
Published on

RESIDENTIAL customers of Visayan Electric will experience a decrease of P0.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in their June–July electricity bill.

This brings the overall residential rate down to P11.03/kWh from last month’s P11.16/kWh. For a household consuming 200 kWh, this translates to a savings of P26.

The rate decrease is attributed to lower generation costs, driven by a decline in electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), a platform where electricity is bought and traded.

Additionally, rates in the Ancillary Services–Reserve Market (AS-RM) have also gone down, further contributing to the overall reduction in residential rates. Ancillary services help ensure the stability and reliability of the power grid.

While rates have decreased, Visayan Electric continues to remind consumers to be mindful of their energy consumption to avoid bill shock.

The company also urges the public to observe electrical safety precautions, especially now that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially declared the onset of the rainy season.

“This rainy season, let us make sure that our electrical appliances and connections are kept safe and away from areas exposed to the elements to prevent any electricity-related accidents,” said Visayan Electric OIC-President and General Manager Mark Kindica.

To ensure safety, please keep these tips in mind:

1. Have your wiring checked.

2. Use weatherproof covers for outdoor outlets.

3. Unplug unused appliances during a storm.

4. Keep electrical cords and devices away from wet areas.

5. Avoid touching electrical equipment with wet hands. (PR)
