AFTER several years of hiatus, the renowned Emil’s Fresh Chicken Fiesta Cup Open Invitational basketball tournament is making a comeback.
Emil Oberes, overall tournament chairman, said the basketball event is part of the upcoming fiesta celebration of Barangay Linao-Lipata in Minglanilla, Cebu.
Six teams are expected to see action in the weeklong tournament, which is tentatively scheduled to start on July 19, 2025 (Saturday), at the Linao-Lipata Sports Complex.
Cash prizes and trophies await the tournament winners, adding excitement and prestige to the event.
To finalize preparations, Oberes has scheduled a meeting with team managers and coaches on Wednesday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Il Corso Cebu, located along the South Road Properties (SRP).
Several teams have also expressed interest in joining the competition.
The last Emil’s Fresh Chicken Fiesta Cup Open Invitational was held in 2019.
However, it was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While a version of the Emil’s Cup was staged last year, it was limited to inter-sitio competitions within the barangay. / JBM
