EIGHTY-THREE-year-old Dory Enoveso claimed Sugbuanon Bowlers United’s (SugBU) Bowler of the Month title for March at the SM Seaside Bowling & Leisure Center on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Enoveso, competing in Division C, delivered an impressive performance, topping the finals with 219 pinfalls despite a strong challenge from Fil-Am 2-hander Robert Sarvida, who placed second with 196 pinfalls.

Qualifying round

In the qualifying round, Richard Turner led Division A with 1,033 pinfalls, followed by Egay Alqueza in second with 1,003 pinfalls.

In Division B, Robert Sarvida led the qualifiers with 988 pinfalls, followed by Rommel Calipay with 985.

Division C was dominated by Enoveso with 914 pinfalls, with Macrae Lim trailing closely behind with 900 pinfalls.

The competition in the semifinals reached new heights, as several players stepped up to book spots in the finals.

Among the highly competitive field of semifinalists, Division B’s Sarvida came out on top with 215 pinfalls, followed by Enoveso with 212, Calipay with 196, and Lim with 177.

Final round

The final match proved to be nail-biter, with Enoveso showcasing consistency and benefitting from her +53 handicap to claim the title. Sarvida settled for second place with 196.

Highlight of the event was Rommel Calipay’s spectacular near-perfect game, where he scored nine consecutive strikes. Just three strikes away from earning the “Perfect Game” ring courtesy of SugBU but Calipay fell short in the final frame with a 9 and a spare, finishing with an impressive score of 278.

Meanwhile, Enoveso’s victory did not only earn her the March title but also promoted her to Division B, marking a significant milestone in her career as she joins the ranks of elite bowlers competing at the highest level in the SugBU community. / Glenn C. Tan
