Costanilla: Family & Child Summit

SUMMIT. I’m glad that the Movie & Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB) will hold its 6th Family & Child Summit next month here in Cebu City. I gathered that the day-long Aug. 10 summit will tackle some interesting topics that its participants should know. MTRCB chair Rachel Arenas herself shall deliver the welcome remarks.

HOPE. I hope the gathering would also discuss the strategies or methods to ensure the strict implementation of film and television ratings in relation to children watching shows for mature audiences. To me, this matter should be taken seriously in order to protect all minors from viewing all sorts of presentations in cinemas and on the boob tube.

SPEAKERS. The whole-day event will have three interesting speakers like veteran actress Gloria Sevilla, the undisputed Queen of Visayan movies, Prof. Nick Deocampo and movie director Jose Javier Reyes. Incidentally, I appeared with Sevilla in the 2013 remake of the film “Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot” (“Our Fate Decides”) that her son Dandin Ranillo re-wrote and directed.

SCREENING. The summit will be capped with the screening of the Victor Villanueva-megged “Patay na si Hesus,” a Visayan film that had Jaclyn Jose as the female lead. On a personal note, let me thank the MTRCB for inviting me as emcee of the day-long summit.

CONTEST. Coming soon is a weekly contest featuring local entertainers especially comic duos and singers. “Musikatawa” will be launched next month at the Jazz Chillin Restaurant & Music Lounge on Rahman St.
