DOJ junks Vhong rape case

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) junked the rape complaint filed by model Deniece Cornejo against “It’s Showtime” host Vhong Navarro.

The court first recommended the filing of a complaint against Navarro, but the DOJ reversed it following a review last year.

Cornejo appealed the DOJ decision but the department eventually denied it.

“(There is) no sufficient evidence to warrant indictment for rape and attempted rape; there is no compulsion to indict him accordingly,” the Philippine Entertainment Portal quoted a part of the resolution. “(Cornejo) suffers from a very serious credibility issue (due to) major inconsistencies.”

The model filed the complaint against the TV host in 2014.

She filed three affidavits to support her complaint—in the first one, she said that no rape happened.

In the second affidavit, Cornejo claimed she was raped by Navarro. In the third complaint, she again alleged rape and claimed that she felt dizzy after drinking alcohol, which she believed had been mixed with a drug.
