The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Dramatics and Cultural Ensemble (Drac) produced three successful religious plays: “The Restless Journey of St. Augustine,” “St. Ezekiel, the Healing Priest” and “Sister Act” 1 and 2.
Aside from their theatrical artistry, these musicals deepened the role of music in inculcating religious, ethical and moral values.
Excerpts from these musicals were shown at the Sisters of Mary (Boys and Girls schools), Speechcom International, a few selected public schools, Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, Zonta Club of Cebu 1, WeCare Foundation, American Chamber and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
During the rehearsals and presentations of these religious musicals, I was reminded of the religious plays I directed at Santa Catalina College, Colegio del Buen Consejo and the University of Santo Tomas before I settled in Cebu.
The USJ-R Drac Amparito L. Lhuillier Educational Foundation (Allef) alumni have performed in California, USA, Las Vegas, Beijing, Hawaii, and other parts of Asia, as well as in many venues across the globe.
There were also singers and facilitators from Speechcom International who performed in various tourism events in Cebu City and Province, including a tourism show in Intramuros. They were pioneers of many USJ-R Broadway-style musicals. We honored them in the USJ-R Drac Allef Hall of Fame.
