Daily Coffee News reports that the owner of Seattle’s Best Coffee filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office a petition to cancel the “Seattle Strong” trademark registration. Seattle Strong was a result of a business school project of students from the University of Washington. They make ready-to-drink cold coffee. Seattle’s Best argues that consumers will be misled into thinking that “Seattle’s Best” and “Seattle Strong,” both used for coffee products, come from the same company. In a press release, Seattle Strong says that it is fighting the cancellation petition and claims that the only overlap between “Seattle’s Best” and “Seattle Strong” is the name “Seattle.” It adds that Seattleites should be able to use the name “Seattle.”
