JULMER Noro, a culinary graduate from Cebu, did not have sales nor financial management background to support his move to the life insurance industry. But the hunger for learning and a commitment to help Filipinos achieve financial security brought him the distinction as Insular Life or InLife’s Top Unit Manager for 2020.
“I’m more of an introvert kind of person. I was not good at speaking in front of many people. But InLife’s world-class trainings and seminars helped me as a financial advisor,” Julmer said.
“My mom Mercy Gurrea has been in the insurance industry for the past 25 years. She inspired me to become a financial advisor. I am a witness to her success, hard work and dedication,” he added.
In 2014, Julmer started his career as a financial advisor as their family-run Agila Financial Team General Insurance Agency Inc. took off in Cebu.
As a second-generation financial advisor, Julmer takes pride in being part of the largest Filipino life insurance company in the country.
“With InLife’s 110 years of uninterrupted service to the Filipinos, two key words come to mind—commitment and service. The commitment of the company also reminds me of how my mom takes good care of our family, and how she and my Tito Celix Gurrea built Agila Financial Team from the ground up,” Julmer said.
During the recent InLife Agency Awarding event for production year 2020, Mercy was recognized as second placer in the Top Underwriter category, while Celix was recognized as third placer in the Top Agency Head category.
From only 15 financial advisors, the Agila Financial Team has grown to more than 100 financial advisors addressing the life insurance and other financial needs of their clients from Cebu, Ormoc, Tacloban, Bohol and Manila.
As training and development manager, Julmer allots most of his work time attending InLife’s trainings and seminars, cascading his learnings to the team and regularly communicating with their financial advisors to encourage them to achieve their sales goals.
But the public health and financial crisis posed challenges to the financial advisors who used to engage in face-to-face meetings with clients.
Julmer admitted that their insurance sales came to a halt during the first month of the community lockdown.
“Then we said to ourselves that we have to accept the new normal. It was hard at first. It was challenging to present virtually because of the lack of emotional approach and physical connection. Sometimes, you have explained a lot of information already, then you realize your client lost his internet connection,” Julmer said.
“But we continue learning. We embraced technology and invested in gadgets and strong internet connection. And through InLife’s fully digital insurance selling system, financial advisors are able to complete insurance selling without face-to-face interaction with clients. Our clients can also sign their policies electronically and pay their premiums through online channels,” he added.
Only one year into his role as unit manager, Julmer was recently recognized as InLife’s Top Unit Manager for 2020.
“I owe everything to my team for their trust and support. The award is just the result of the combined efforts of every financial advisor. If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself,” Julmer said.
The hard work of the Agila Financial Team and InLife’s commitment to help more Filipinos achieve their financial goals will continue to inspire him to deliver.
