YEARS of tradition. Unshakeable faith. Community. The pillars that hold up Sinulog, the Feast of Senyor Sto. Niño, are now being challenged by the ongoing pandemic.

Sinulog is the yearly highlight of Cebu’s religious and cultural activities. People come in from all over the world to immerse themselves in the culture and festivities, with the true heart of it all being the novena masses in the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu. After all, many say that the feast is a celebration of the Cebuanos’ conversion to Roman Catholicism all those centuries ago.

Novena masses. Singing. Devoted prayers. One of the strongest feelings Sinulog incites is a sense of community. The sense of oneness and belonging. The sense of meaningful unity. In a crowd of people, instead of being lonely, it feels like being home.

And the heart feels so full.
