ARTISANAL creations by skilled craftsmen from all over the country will highlight a cultural retail event that will be held at the Ayala Center Cebu on Sept 22 to 24.
The event called “Balanghai” is set to gather some of the best products and exhibitors known for their fine craftsmanship, a display of a rich tapestry of Philippine artistry and the stories behind these.
“Balanghai” refers to the first wooden watercraft unearthed in Southeast Asia. It is a demonstration of early Filipino craftsmanship and their seamanship skills during the pre-colonial period.
Evoking a deeper appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, the products range from intricate woven textiles to meticulously crafted jewelry and more.
Balanghai also considers itself an experiential platform for Philippine brands to showcase their unique work to the Cebu market and to spur dialog among the academe, private sector and public sector on the promotion of craft tourism.
Apart from showcasing artisan products, the event also features a vibrant exhibition, interactive workshop and insightful panel discussions where key personalities talk on the business and sustainability of crafts.
Featured exhibitors include Adante Leyesa and Edited Limited, Balay ni Atong, Atoa by Cheeky Chic, Capricho bags, Felip+inna, Kevin Morales, Jill Lao, Natalya Lagdameo, Shepard Lifestyles Goods, Tagpi, and Strozzi.
The cultural retail will showcase pieces curated by noted designer Neil Felipp San Pedro. The renowned designer is known for his elegantly designed minaudieres and accessories.
The proceeds of the cultural retail event will go to the Himu Foundation for the benefit of artisanal communities of Cebu.
