
Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu marked the arrival of the Year of the Wood Snake with traditional celebrations on January 29, 2025, emphasizing prosperity and new beginnings. The annual event brought together community leaders, business executives, and guests for a splendid and culturally rich celebration.
Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu Chairman and President Justin Uy highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and growth in his opening remarks. “We at Jpark keep on doing something new for the good of the city,” Uy said. “Last year, we opened a new restaurant, the Galo Grill, and a new hotel in Bohol, Jpark Island Resort Alona. We have many events to make everything better. We really look forward to the prosperity the Year of the Wood Snake would bring, and of course, for everybody to have good health.”
The event featured traditional Chinese New Year customs, including the Eye Dotting of Lions, a symbolic ritual believed to awaken the spirits of the lion dancers and bring good fortune. The Prosperity Yee Sang Toss, a communal dish symbolizing abundance and success, was another highlight of the evening. Participants tossed the ingredients high into the air while voicing their wishes for prosperity in the coming year.
Among the notable attendees were Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan; Congresswoman Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" King Chan; Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Officer, Garry Lao; Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Commissioner and Consultant, Queenie Ammann, Jpark Island Resort’s Vice President of Operations and General Manager Brian Connelly, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ryan Cho, and Profood Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Uy. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion, not only for Jpark Island Resort but also for the local tourism and hospitality industry.
Beyond the ceremonies, Jpark Island Resort also prepared a series of festive activities and entertainment for guests, including cultural performances, dragon and lion dances, and a grand fireworks display.
