A HOUSE was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Figueroa St., Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City, on Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2025. Firefighters estimated the damage at P180,000.
The house, owned by Francisco Diaz, has a floor area of 120 square meters and reportedly had tenants. The Bureau of Fire Protection in Cebu City said it received the alarm at 10:08 a.m.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 10:25 a.m. and declared it fully extinguished at 10:35 a.m.
Neighbors said no one was inside the house at the time of the fire, as the occupants had gone home to their hometowns.
They recalled hearing crackling sounds from inside before seeing thick black smoke, prompting them to call for help.
Faulty electrical wiring or an overheating appliance are among the suspected causes. / JDG
