Fire hits Basak Pardo, Cebu City

(UPDATED) AROUND 100 houses were affected by a fire that hit two sitios in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City, on Friday evening, July 27.

The Cebu City Fire Department received the alarm at 9:57 p.m. and it was raised to Task Force Alpha at 10:41 p.m., informing the nearby fire stations to respond to the area.

Authorities, who are still conducting further investigation to determine the cause of the incident, said the fire started in the house of a certain Elviza Flores.

The fire that hit Sitio Sto. Niño and Kauswagan was declared under control at 11:47 p.m.

The city fire department pegged the damage to property around P1 million.

Nagiel Bañacia, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief, said firefighters struggled to penetrate the fire scene due to narrow roads.

He also added that affected families were temporarily evacuated at Villa Zacate gym.

Cebu City Traffic Office operations chief Francisco Ouano earlier advised all northbound vehicles to take alternative routes such as Tagunol St. to avoid heavy traffic.
