Fish prices drop during Holy Week; Binignit ingredients vary in Cebu City
Published on:

FISH prices at Carbon Public Market in Cebu City have either dropped or remained stable despite Holy Week, contrary to typical seasonal trends.

The Office of the City Markets reported that some fish varieties decreased by up to P110 per kilo from March prices.

On April 14, mamsa sold for P270-P300 per kilo, down from P380 in March. Bariles dropped to P120-P200 from P240, while yellowfin decreased to P160-P230 from P240.

Bangus prices stayed relatively stable at P210-P230, compared to P220 in March. Bodboron showed a slight decrease, selling at P160-P200 from the previous P170.

SunStar Cebu attempted to determine reasons for the price drops but was unsuccessful.

Fish demand typically rises during Holy Week as Catholics observe fasting and abstinence from meat.
