THE Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 office has warned that heavy rainfall and runoff from upland areas can inundate low‑lying villages; areas along constricted drainage systems and natural waterways are particularly vulnerable.

MGB 7’s 2018 hazard map lists 22 barangays as most susceptible to flooding.

These villages are Talamban, Banilad, Kalubihan, Cambinocot, Cogon Ramos, Day-as, Guadalupe, Hipodromo, Kamagayan, San Roque, Labangon, Lusaran, Mabolo, Pit-os, Pulangbato, San Jose, Sapangdaku, T. Padilla, Tinago, Tisa, To-ong and Pardo.

Most of these are lowland urban communities. Banilad, Kalubihan, Cogon Ramos, Day‑as, Guadalupe, Hipodromo, Kamagayan, San Roque, Labangon, Mabolo, T. Padilla, Tinago, Tisa and Pardo sit along rivers, creeks or coastal areas.

Flooding also threatens some upland barangays. Lusaran, Cambinocot, Pit‑os, Pulangbato, San Jose, Sapangdaku and To‑ong lie on hillsides or mountain slopes yet appear on the flood‑prone list.

MGB 7 has said that residents and officials must prepare because runoff from steep uplands can quickly inundate low‑lying barangays. / KAL
