FILIPINO-SWEDE prospect Alexander Fredriksson finally gets his fight with veteran former ALA boy Marjohn Yap in the main event of Omega Sports Promotions’ “Kumbati 19” on May 16, 2025, at the IPI Compound in Tingub, Mandaue City.

“I’m motivated because Alexis (Fredriksson) is full of talent, and we want to give him the best possible challenge to help mold a better version of himself. We consider Alexis the next face of Omega Boxing,” Omega Boxing Gym head coach Jinggoy Junco told SunStar Cebu.

Fredriksson and Yap were supposed to meet last Feb. 8 at the Nustar Resort and Casino in one of the undercard bouts of “Binukbukay sa Sugbo”.

However, the fight was canceled after the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) intervened because of the disparity in their professional records. The 21-year-old Fredriksson instead faced Reymond Empic and stopped him in the opening round.

A few months later, the GAB, somehow, had a change of heart and finally gave the fight the go signal.

Although Fredriksson has just two pro bouts under his belt, he has extensive experience in the amateur ranks and is considered as one of the best young amateur pugs in Europe.

The 36-year-old Yap should be Fredriksson’s toughest assignment in the pro ranks because he is a 53-fight veteran who has fought some of the elite names. He has fought the likes of Takuma Inoue, Angelo Leo, and Charlie Suarez.

In his last fight, Yap suffered an eight-round stoppage loss to undefeated prospect Jerald Into, who is currently competing in the Riyadh Season World Boxing Council (WBC) Grand Prix.

Fredriksson is 2-0 with two knockouts, while Yap is 34-19 with 17 knockouts.

In the undercard, Arlando Senoc (4-0, 3 KOs) faces fellow hard-hitter Eldin Guinahon (9-4, 8 KOs), former Philippine National Team member John Paul Panuayan makes his pro debut against fellow newcomer Mario Bersano, Mark Gil Gandi (1-0, 1 KO) trades leathers with Kasty Flores (3-3, 2 KOs), Jubert Cahimat (1-0) takes on Aldren Aton (1-2-1), and Crixian Arriola clashes with fellow debutant Francis Arante in the show’s curtain-raiser. / EKA
