CEBU City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia will seek the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) assistance in finding out the individuals behind the text scam which dragged his name.
Garcia took to social media past midnight on May 12, 2025 to warn the public about a “black propaganda” being spread against him.
The text blast that was disseminated contained instructions to recipients to proceed to a barangay hall to get their P5,000.
Garcia, in an interview with the media after casting his vote, said he was about to sleep Sunday night when he received more than 10 messages and five calls from unknown numbers, asking him which barangay.
Garcia said he will ask the NBI to look into the matter.
Garcia called the propaganda “dirty.”
“Dako kaayo na nga bakak. And that’s not even my number,” said Garcia.
The mayor said he was not blaming anybody, adding it is part of the game, but said the move was too much.
He reiterated his call for a fair, honest and orderly election. / JJL, JPS
