GLOBE Telecom is accelerating the expansion of its fiber broadband services across the Philippines by tapping into its existing network capacity and making targeted investments. The initiative aims to bring more Filipino households and small businesses online, supporting broader digital inclusion efforts.

The company is expanding both its postpaid GFiber plans and its contract-free, reloadable GFiber Prepaid service. As of the first quarter of 2025, Globe had 1.83 million broadband subscribers, with GFiber Prepaid growing by 53 percent quarter-on-quarter to reach 400,000 homes.

Globe president and chief executive officer Carl Cruz said fixed broadband remains a key driver of growth for the company, with monthly data consumption now exceeding 30 gigabyte per user. He added that the company’s fiber strategy goes beyond providing internet — it’s about enabling economic opportunities for families and entrepreneurs and supporting the country’s digi-

tal transformation.

The growing demand for reliable internet comes as Filipinos spend nearly nine hours online daily, according to the Digital 2025 Report. However, fixed broadband access remains uneven, with only 33 percent of households connected as of 2024, based on data from the Department of Information and Communications

Technology.

Globe’s network expansion supports the government’s National Broadband Plan and connectivity efforts in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas. The company has transitioned over 600 towns in at least 70 provinces to full fiber connectivity, phasing out legacy copper lines in favor of faster, more sustainable infrastructure.

Cruz emphasized that Globe’s network expansion is about creating opportunities and driving inclusive growth. By bringing high-speed internet to underserved communities, the company is helping more Filipinos join the

digital economy.

The company has invested P228 billion in capital expenditures and P236 billion in operational spending over the past three years to modernize its infrastructure. These investments are not just about increasing speed, Cruz said, but also about fostering digital equity and supporting long-term natio-

nal development.

He underscored that fiber connectivity serves as the foundation of a digital lifestyle and Globe remains committed to scaling its services in a strategic and customer-centric

way. / KOC
