AYALA-LED Globe Telecom announced its mobile network now reaches 96.13 percent of the Philippine population, or over 106 million people. The company, however, recognizes that approximately 4.2 million Filipinos in remote and underserved areas still lack connectivity.

In a statement, Joel Agustin, senior vice president for Network Planning and Engineering at Globe, said that the company remains dedicated to providing quality connectivity to every Filipino, acknowledging that there is still significant work ahead.

In 2024, Globe invested P56.2 billion in capital expenditures to fortify its network, which included building over 1,200 new cell sites, upgrading more than 4,600 sites to LTE, and installing nearly 600 new 5G sites. This has led to almost complete coverage in Metro Manila and nearly 97 percent coverage in key cities across the Visayas and Mindanao.

The company is now focusing its expansion efforts on underserved communities with limited or no network access. To achieve this, Globe is deploying off-grid and solar-powered towers in areas with unreliable electricity and is collaborating with local governments to streamline the permitting process.

Agustin further explained that the company’s network expansion is both targeted and strategic, aiming to improve the lives of more Filipinos and support national development.

The provision of a stable mobile signal in these communities, he noted, can create opportunities in education, livelihood and business. / KOC
