IN today’s generation, fake news is rampant. Misinformation is spreading due to irresponsible citizens. Baseless opinions also contribute to this issue. Because of that, we need someone who will stand up for what is right.
In school, we have these so-called “campus journalists.” They serve as the school’s reporters. They’re like the journalists we see on TV and social media. But some are not genuine in their service. Sometimes, it’s just for “clout-chasing.” They want to be recognized for their work, praised by people and called cool because they hold a camera.
In short, they joined just because it sounds cool to be called a “campus journalist.” Is that right? They’re called school journalists, but they have no intention of serving without recognition.
As campus journalists, we’re expected to deliver true information and meaningful stories not just to our fellow students but to the whole world. We’re expected to stand up for what’s right and fight for freedom of the press on campus.
But why do others abuse it? Why do others use it as a way to become famous? For me, I hope we can be true to our service. Let’s not waste the privilege given to us to tell stories and deliver true information to the world.
We have a responsibility as young journalists. We need to maintain the credibility and integrity of what we report. And that starts with us. Let’s be true to our intention to serve our fellow students through writing and taking pictures.
Even if our goals for joining this field are different, let’s unite in fighting fake news and helping people form informed opinions.
Be a campus journalist, not for recognition.
Stop the clout-chasing and have a sense of responsibility! Serve the truth, work for the truth and be the truth!
