THE Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) has reminded the public, including licensed gun holders, that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban remains in effect even after the conclusion of the 2025 national and local elections.

The gun ban will continue until midnight of June 11, 2025.

The gun ban, implemented by the Philippine National Police (PNP) starting January 12, 2025, prohibits licensed firearm holders from carrying guns and bladed weapons outside their homes, as the permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) has been suspended.

The ban also includes the use of bodyguards or security personnel without proper accreditation from the Comelec.

PRO 7 Director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, said law enforcement operations related to the Comelec gun ban will continue across Central Visayas to ensure compliance with election-related restrictions.

“While the voting has ended, the election period is still in effect. The Comelec gun ban remains in force until June 11, and our law enforcement efforts will continue to maintain post-election peace and security,” said Maranan.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperative. Let us preserve the peace we have achieved during the elections and continue to protect our communities from gun-related violence,” he added.

Since January 12, 2025, PRO 7 has recorded 397 gun ban violations, resulting in the arrest of 407 individuals and the seizure of 424 various firearms and weapons, including 407 small firearms, three light weapons, three replicas or improvised firearms, three explosives, and around 1,206 rounds of ammunition.

These figures are the result of intensified Comelec checkpoints, police responses, patrols, anti-illegal drug operations, and other law enforcement activities.

PRO 7 urged the public to report any individuals carrying firearms or engaging in suspicious activities in their areas so that authorities can respond immediately. (AYB)
