A HIGH-VALUE individual belonging to a gun-for-hire and robbery group operating in Cebu province, along with his companion, was arrested by the Argao Municipal Police Station around 4:50 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Barangay Apo, Argao town.
Taken into custody and detained at the Argao Police Station custodial facility were Eduardo Lazaga Carreon, alias Eddie, 38, of Barangay Apo, Argao, and Jade Michael Montalla, 19, of Barangay Bae, Sibonga.
During the search, operatives led by Police Major Janus Giangan seized two .45-caliber pistols, two magazines, and 11 bullets.
Also recovered from Carreon’s home were five packs of shabu weighing 25 grams, with a standard drug price of P170,000.
The Argao Municipal Police implemented the search warrant issued by Judge Francis Rainier Navarrete, presiding judge of RTC 7th Judicial Region Branch 93 in Argao, against Carreon for violation of Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, which carries a recommended bail of P120,000.
According to Giangan, Carreon is identified as a member of the Roel Gomez gun-for-hire and robbery group operating in Cebu province.
He had long been wanted after his companions were arrested during police pursuit operations against armed men in the mountains.
Upon monitoring his return to Barangay Apo with his newly recruited member, Montalla, police immediately applied for and secured a search warrant from the court.
The group has been linked to killings and robberies not only in Cebu province but also in Cebu City.
Based on intelligence community reports, the Roel Gomez group has also formed ties with the Ozamis Robbery Group. (AYB)
