TOOLS used in the manufacture of illegal homemade firearms (locally known as paltik) in Barangay Masaba, Danao City were surrendered to the 701st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 at 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025.
The confiscated gun-making equipment included two bench drill presses, 13 bench vises, 15 hacksaws, 82 steel files, and four gun patterns or frames.
These items were previously used to manufacture illegal firearms sold to individuals seeking unregistered weapons. The surrendered tools are now in the custody of RMFB 7 for proper documentation and disposal.
Last week, police in Central Visayas launched a massive crackdown on loose firearms and the identification of gunsmiths in Danao.
After seeing a heavy police presence, a concerned citizen approached authorities and expressed intent to surrender gun-making tools in their possession.
Central Visayas police chief Brigadier General Redrico Maranan said the surrender of these gun-making tools has potentially saved many lives.
He said their campaign against loose firearms reflects their relentless pursuit of peace and order throughout Central Visayas.
“Each piece of equipment turned over represents a life potentially saved from gun violence. The relentless efforts of our personnel to root out sources of illegal firearms reflect our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Central Visayas. Our goal remains clear — zero gun-related crimes in the region,” said Maranan.
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) continues to urge the public, especially residents of barangays in Danao City and neighboring towns, to surrender any gun-making equipment they may still possess.
Alongside this call, authorities also urged individuals to stop manufacturing illegal firearms to avoid future legal consequences, as they will be the next targets of police operations. (AYB)
