SEVERAL tools used in the manufacture of homemade firearms were seized by police at dawn on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Barangay Dungga, Danao City, Cebu.

The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) launched a clearing operation across Danao City targeting illegal gun manufacturing.

In line with this, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO 7, called on barangay officials in the city to cooperate with police in addressing the ongoing issue of loose firearms production.

Maranan warned that barangay captains who refuse to comply will be reported to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), where formal complaints may be filed and they could face criminal and administrative charges.

Following this call, barangay officials in Dungga surrendered various abandoned gun-making tools found in their area to the Danao City police.

The surrendered items included one bench vise, 30 welding rods, two grinders, and one sack of assorted tools.

Maranan commended the barangay officials for actively cooperating with the police in ensuring public safety.

“This is the kind of community partnership we are calling for -- when our people recognize the danger posed by loose firearms and become part of the solution. We cannot win this fight alone. The help of our barangay leaders is vital in uprooting these threats from the ground,” Maranan said.

To fully eliminate the tools used in firearm manufacturing throughout Danao City, Maranan said they would conduct house-to-house visits in identified areas known for gun-making.

He clarified that this proactive approach is aimed at preventing crimes involving loose firearms, protecting the community, and saving many lives. (AYB)
