CONSTRUCTION of the P219-million socialized housing project in Barangay Calawisan, Lapu-Lapu City, has reached the fifth floor of one of its initial buildings.
Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan, accompanied by City Engineering Office head Perla Amar and City Attorney James Sayson, conducted an on-site inspection of the project on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Chan confirmed that work on the fifth floor of the first building is underway, noting the rapid progress since construction began on March 3.
Turnover target
According to the private contractor, Zumyrphil Construction Inc., the first building, comprising 100 units, is expected to be ready for turnover by December of this year. The second building, which will also have 100 units, is scheduled for completion around March next year, she added.
The first phase of the project, funded entirely by the City Government, involves the construction of two five-story buildings. Each unit measures 24 square meters.
Chan said priority for housing will be given to residents who will be affected by upcoming government infrastructure projects. The Local Housing Board will be tasked with determining the initial batch of beneficiaries.
This socialized housing effort forms part of the National Government’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino program.
The project is set to expand to 1,000 to 1,500 units in the donated two-hectare property by Johndorf Ventures Corp. / DPC
