How 'BreKa' won PBB's groundbreaking collab edition

If there is one thing viewers will remember from “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition,” it is the unexpected yet beautifully consistent bond between Mika Salamanca and Brent Manalo. Dubbed “BreKa” inside the house and “MikBrent” by fans who have rooted for them since day one, the Kapuso-Kapamilya pairing became a symbol of connection and consistency.

Their partnership reflected two competitive spirits who found comfort and growth in each other. As the only pair to choose each other twice in this historic joint production between GMA and ABS-CBN, their win was more than deserved, it perfectly embodied the spirit of collaboration.

A fateful tug of rope

During week two, housemates were randomly paired through a rope-picking challenge. Fate led Mika, “The Controversial Ca-babe-len ng Pampanga,” to Brent, “The Gentle-linong Heartthrob.” From the beginning, the two were thrilled with the pairing, immediately noticing how alike they were. “It’s like looking in a mirror,” Brent said. Both were go-getters, both cared about aesthetics (their own words) and beneath the drive, both had unexpectedly soft sides.

Rising as task leaders

In the “One Shot Wonder” weekly task, BreKa took on the responsibility of leading their group. They were challenged to direct an 18-minute uncut short film inspired by YouTube star Esnyr’s fictional characters. Although their team did not win the weekly budget, Mika and Brent stood out by bringing the housemates together, encouraging ideas and creating a safe space for collaboration. They demonstrated leadership rooted in empathy and listening.

Brent’s golden seat, Mika’s golden moment

Brent secured a golden seat during “The Big Carnival Concert,” a highly coveted reward that allowed one housemate’s loved one to watch the concert or connect via video call. When Kuya told him the seat could be given to someone else, Brent chose Mika without hesitation.

That decision gave Mika something she never expected, a heartfelt conversation with her mother. The moment deepened friendship between the two.

Duo that chose each other twice

In a season known for constant pair switches, Mika and Brent remained the only duo to reunite in the final pairing task. At that point, Mika ranked sixth, but she chose Brent again, pouring her heart into her decision.

“I’m choosing this person because he has been a huge part of my growth and journey here. He is one of the kindest, most hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever met. I think he’s my strength inside this house,” she said.

‘Big Tapatan’ decision

During the “Big Tapatan,” where housemates had to defend their spots in the finale, Brent and Mika made a bold move. They offered their slots to recently evicted housemates Shuvee Etrata and Klarisse de Guzman, also known as ShuKla. Although Kuya did not allow them to proceed with the exchange, their willingness to step aside spoke volumes about their character.

Final hurdle

Together with three other duos, BreKa entered the grueling “Big Jump Challenge.” RaWi and AzVer had already claimed two spots. That left BreKa to face off against DusBi in a final head-to-head task, which required them to navigate red cups through a maze and build the tallest tower within a time limit.

After six intense hours of physical and mental effort, BreKa emerged victorious. They secured the last spot in the Big Four, sending DusBi home.

‘One Million Votes Challenge’

The “One Million Vote Challenge” marked the final push before Big Night, with 400,000 votes up for grabs in the first round.

BreKa rose to the occasion, going head-to-head with AzVer in a tight race. While other duos struggled, BreKa stayed focused and in sync.

They were the first to complete the task, securing the top spot and proving once again why their bond remained one of the strongest in the house.

What they mean to each other

As the show came to a close, both Mika and Brent shared heartfelt messages that showed just how much the journey and each other meant to them.

“During the first few days, you were having a hard time adjusting. That’s when I knew we were going to be friends,” Brent said. “Little by little, you started letting your walls down, little by little you began to trust yourself and we became best friends in the house. I’ll be here to pick up the pieces.”

Mika echoed his sentiment. “I also saw you slowly letting your walls down. Slowly, we saw how you cried, how you began expressing yourself to others. I’m always going to love you, no matter who you become.” S
