Indian national killed in Argao bus-motorcycle crash

AN INDIAN national died after being thrown off a motorcycle when it collided with a Ceres bus that overtook it on the National Highway in Barangay Langtad, Argao, Cebu at 3:43 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The victim, later identified as Kuldip Kumar, 51, was declared dead at Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital (ICKMH) in Barangay Bogo, Argao. Kumar had been residing in Barangay Tulic, Argao.

According to the Argao Municipal Police Station, led by Police Major Janus Giangan, two Suzuki motorcycles were heading north when the incident occurred.The first was driven by Suman Surjit, 45, also an Indian national, with Kumar as his backrider. They were followed by a Yamaha Aerox, driven by 39-year-old Analisa Gonzaga Narbasa.

As the two motorcycles traveled together, a Ceres bus driven by 36-year-old Fernando Sarno Malabago Jr. of Barangay Linuthangan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental was approaching from behind. The bus attempted to overtake the motorcycles but suddenly lost control, causing Surjit to crash.

Kumar was thrown off and landed under the bus, which continued moving, dragging him approximately 40 feet, resulting in severe injuries.

Emergency personnel from the Argao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded quickly and transported the victim to the hospital, however, the attending physician declared Kumar dead due to hemorrhagic shock.

A case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property is being prepared against the driver. (AYB/SunStar Philippines)
