A THREE-DAY Korean medical mission brought free healthcare and compassion to Minglanilla and Soong, Lapu-Lapu City, from June 5 to 7, 2025.

Spearheaded by Mary’s Little Children and Mary’s Children Formation College Seminary, in collaboration with the Korean Open Doctors Society, the humanitarian project was led by Fr. David Ezike, a Nigerian priest serving in the Philippines. Janice Vasquez coordinated local volunteer support.

Despite challenges like distance and language barriers, volunteers from across Cebu, including students from the Advance Institute of Technology, actively participated. Their dedication ensured patients received timely and accurate assistance.

The Korean medical team, composed of some of Korea’s top doctors, offered a wide range of free services, including dental care, general health check-ups, acupuncture, orthopedic surgeries and free medications.

“Being a medical practitioner is not easy; you must face challenges and overcome boundaries that may arise. But being part of this profession is something to be proud of,” said Dr. Chong Yujin, a member of the Korean team.

The mission also provided a learning opportunity for local students like Maritel Mapute, a second-year nursing student at Southwestern University-Phinma. “Although I couldn’t interact much with the Korean doctors because of the language difference, I realized that Korean medicine is not just cultural — it’s scientific and effective. It’s something people should explore and study.”

Go Eunso, one of the Korean nurses, shared her emotional reflection: “The volunteer work I did in the Philippines was incredibly rewarding. I loved visiting communities in need and offering assistance. It’s a place I would love to return to if I have the opportunity.”

The mission left more than just healed patients — it also left a lasting impression of unity, kindness and shared humanity. Every smile, every moment of relief and every gesture of compassion became a lasting reminder of the power of service and solidarity.
