
The 17th Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Lapu-Lapu City opened with a reshuffling of committees, retaining most incumbent chairpersons.
Councilor Rufo Bering was appointed chairman of the committees on environment, natural resources and climate change adaptations, replacing Councilor Celestino Aying. He also succeeded Vice Mayor Celedonio Sitoy as chair of the committee on ethics, good government, transparency and accountability.
The following councilors retained their chairmanships:
Aying - Labor and Employment, and Urban Poor and Cultural Minorities.
Joergen Eyas-Book - Accreditation and Gender Equality and Development.
Climaco Tatoy Jr. - Abattoir, Markets and Consumer Protection.
Emilio Galaroza Jr. - Anti-Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking; and Health and Hospital Services.
- Ariane Neil Marie Yap - Business and Industry; Energy and Power; and Children, Women and Family.
Joseph Pangatungan - Cooperatives and Livelihood.
Marciano Alforque Jr. - Disaster Risk and Reduction Management.
Annabeth Cuizon - Finance and Appropriations; and Social Services, Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Jan Vincent Dela Serna - Games and Amusement; Police, Penology and Civil Military Relations; and Sports Development.
Linda Susan Baring - Human Resources Development; and Laws and Human Rights.
Ex-officio members Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president Jasmine Marie “Daday” Chan and Sangguniang Kabataan president Orlan Joseph Carungay continue as chairpersons of Barangay Affairs and Youth and Development, respectively.
Restructuring
The SP introduced new chairmanships and realigned several committees. The former Infrastructure, Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing committee was split: Herrera now heads Infrastructure and Public Works; Baring, Urban Planning and Housing.
Tourism now stands as a separate committee still under Pangatungan. Culture, Arts and Heritage functions moved to the Education committee, chaired by Cuizon.
The former Transportation and Communication committee headed by Alforque was divided: Pangatungan now heads Traffic and Transportation; Yap leads Information and Communication Technology.
Alforque also now chairs Ways and Means, replacing Baring. / DPC
