STUDENTS in Lapu-Lapu City now have free access to a dedicated study space with the reopening of the city’s E-Library, which had been temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The E-Library, located at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob, officially reopened on Friday, July 25, 2025. It is now open daily from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight, providing students with a free internet, printing services, and computer access.

Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" King-Chan stated the facility helps students and young people who lack internet, computers, or gadgets at home. The study area is open to elementary, high school, and college students, as well as those preparing for board and licensure examinations.

“Our goal is to make the E-library a place where learning is not limited by time, space or resources. This is one of our priorities,” said King-Chan.

The E-Library temporarily closed during the pandemic and served as a data encoding center for COVID-19-impacted individuals.

Lone District Representative Junard "Ahong" Chan introduced the initiative in 2019 when he was mayor. He confirmed his support, adding that free coffee and chocolate drinks will be available in the air-conditioned study area.

Mayor Cindi is considering adjusting the opening hours to 6 a.m. to accommodate students before their classes, depending on demand.

She also directed all barangays to establish their own E-Libraries, aiming to provide wider access for students in more distant areas. (DPC)
