As we dive deeper into summer, the heat in Cebu has been absolutely relentless. It’s the kind of heat that makes you wish you were either at the beach or holding something icy cold in your hand. Luckily, last weekend, Chowking brought Halo-Halo Land to SM Seaside City Cebu — a pop-up event that gave an ultimate summer cool-down experience with games and interactive booths highlighting their specialty: the halo-halo.
I went to the opening program of the event on May 3, 2025, and the Seaview Wing Atrium was packed with a huge crowd of people. I was wondering why the event was so well-attended, and why the crowd would constantly chant what sounded like “kimpao” — but I brushed it off, assuming that it was probably a new kind of siopao that Chowking was launching. This assumption held on until I looked around and saw several people holding up posters. Eventually, I realized that they were actually saying “KimPau” — which was the love team name of Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, who were specials guests at the event.
Apart from the special show at the event, they also had different games and prizes, cute summer cocktail tables, and a fried siopao station. To top it all off and what really hit the spot was their Buy 2, Get 1 Free Halo-Halo Supreme promo. It was not just refreshing but on a day that felt like 40°C, this was exactly the kind of cold craving everyone needed.
