When you hear the words “Sunday Family Day,” you think of a family having a lunch at the backyard, enjoying their home-cooked charcoal-grilled meat or Pinoy-style barbecue. Right?

There’s something about charcoal-grilled meat that has become a tradition to most Filipino families. The smell and the taste of these dishes bring comfort and warmth among those who partake of them.

D’Yard Grill House takes inspiration from this family tradition and provides a place where one can indulge in good grilled food, especially to those who are away from their families.

Located on President Aguinaldo St., Kasambagan, Cebu City, D’Yard Grill House is not one’s typical barbecue place. This has probably something to do with the fact that it has indoor and alfresco setups with lush greenery, fairy lights at night, and a vibe similar to enjoying some good barbecue and drinks at your own backyard. It is also located right in the middle of a residential area and is away from the noisy and busy streets of Mabolo.

As for its dishes, unlike the Pinoy-style barbecue, it leans more towards the smoky-tangy side of the taste spectrum with a little bit of sweetness. Its version, which is inspired by the owner’s grandmother’s recipe, lets the natural sweetness of the meat of chicken, pork, chicken gizzard and liver, chorizo and hotdogs, to name a few, shine through.

Simply put: If you’re not a fan of sweet barbecue sauce, D’Yard Grill House is for you.

D’Yard Grill House also offers all-day breakfast meals; seafood like calamares, tuna panga, tuna belly, shrimp, scallops; coffee from The Daily Grind; and its rendition of Filipino favorite snacks such as puto sikwati with mango, turon con sorbetes, minatamis saging with ice cream, mango and banana with gelatin and pancit molo. Of course, beers and liquors are available to make the barbecue experience complete.

Each dish is beautifully plated on an oway weaved plate with banana leaf, just like what Cebuanos usually do during gatherings or out-of-town trips. If one prefers a la boodle type setup, its platters are available.

On top of its offerings, D’Yard Grill House also boasts of its customer service. As a business owned and run by a senior operations manager in one of the biggest business process outsourcing companies in the country, it ensures that each staff member is well trained on how to properly handle customers with smiles on their faces.

Bonus point: Beside D’Yard Grill House is a carwash, making it more an ideal place to go specially if one wants to have his car washed. One should also look forward to this barbecue place’s acoustic nights, when one can sing along while enjoying the barbecue dining experience.

D’Yard Grill House is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
