Eugenio: Pyrotechnics

Eugenio: Pyrotechnics

My son recently saw fireworks after the last day of his first week in school. The fireworks were there to send off all the freshmen to a bright and prosperous year of learning. Despite the spectacle in front of my son’s eyes, what took his attention was how the people sent to watch over the fireworks didn’t seem interested in the fireworks themselves. While the answer as to why is to be vigilant in case of anomalies, it made my son wonder, would anyone really prefer to be the pyrotechnic instead of the one who gazes at the fireworks?

This question can be understood similarly to “Would you rather be the artist or the critic?” but I think there is more to it. These pyrotechnics aren’t necessarily those who made the fireworks, nor are they critics of the art. They simply exist to prevent injuries which is very noble, don’t get me wrong. While there is greatness in crafting the piece and awe in admiring it, I believe the pyrotechnic plays a specific role that is often underappreciated.

I believe it is these “roles” that my son failed to see. Some people are merely meant to be craftsmen, appraisers, enjoyers, or experts, and though the experience is different, the beauty is all the same. These “roles” that people may have in life can easily be found in the Heaven Luck of anyone’s chart. Since Heaven Luck is our innate characteristics and traits, it also plays a role in one’s success in life. By knowing our roles in life, our journey through life becomes a little bit less cluttered with other variables.

With the strength of our hands and wit of our minds, the results of our Heaven Luck can propel anyone into great heights. While the seas and winds towards success may be fair and favorable when maximizing Heaven Luck, the boat itself must be built with one’s own hands. With one’s Man Luck, our own hard work, success can be further cemented. One must not grow used to the calmness of waves because when the high tides eventually come, your boat is what saves you.

People are destined for certain professions in life. While it might be a downer thinking that everyone has one predetermined job, one is born with the affinity of many different future careers. What’s beautiful is that one finds the right one, hones it to perfection, and uses it to create something beautiful. While the artist makes the beauty and the audience look at beauty, the pyrotechnic’s masterpiece is the awe and wonder that permeates through the crowd, and I think that’s an art form in and of itself.
