As the sunlight began to fade making way for the night, a small crowd began flocking to Draft Punk Craft Café to attend “Garage Day!” on April 2 in hopes of finding a new record for their vinyl collection, a new book to read or other stuff and knickknacks to fill the creative nooks in their rooms.
“Garage Day!” is a brainchild of record collaborators Dino Domingo and Jeremiah Bondoc who run two of the few independent record stores in Cebu: Dino with Baihaus and Miah with Haul.
In hopes of gathering the few local collectors and enthusiasts of the burgeoning vinyl record scene, at the same time also exposing vinyl records to a wider audience, Dino and Miah started “Garage Day!” in 2017 as a music fest and bazaar where people could enjoy music from live DJ sets, chill out and rummage through stacks of vinyl records both old and fresh ones.
This year’s gathering marked the return of “Garage Day!” ever since the pandemic hit in 2020. A lot were in store for people who made their way to Mango Square Mall, Cebu City to attend the event. There were different booths that sold books, action figures, comic books, handmade accessories, tees, and most of all vinyl records, cassette tapes and CDs.
Live DJ sets filled the air with electrifying music and the crowd grew larger as the night grew. The event was a smashing success. Everyone went home happy, with records tucked in their arms and smiles on their faces. They have a new album to listen to and add to their collection, and another “Garage Day!” to look forward to in the future.
