The timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn remains unparalleled and undaunted.

Even today, the star continues to be a prominent figure in pop culture and Hollywood. A talented and charismatic actress, Hepburn in her prime made some of the most iconic characters come to life, greatly influencing the world of fashion. To this day, her impact remains unprecedented. Women of all ages look up to her because of her timeless elegance and style.

One of the main factors that solidified her legacy is the characters that she played in her movies. All of them were fun, quirky, and carefree but they, most importantly, were dressed to perfection.

Here are some of the movie characters that Hepburn played and how they helped her become the icon that she is today and will be forevermore.

Sabrina Fairchild in “Sabrina”

If any woman has seen the black and white film of “Sabrina” (or even the 1994 remake), it is no surprise how viewers would easily roll their eyes on Sabrina and her obsession with David Larabee. Although this movie character isn’t the strongest one compared to other Hepburn roles, this one still made waves due to the beautiful clothes that Audrey wore that were designed by French fashion designer, Herbert Givenchy.

This transformation story from a boring young girl to a sophisticated woman was eye-catching but it was Sabrina’s vibrant personality that really stole the show.

Princess Ann in “Roman Holiday”

This role bagged Audrey’s first Oscar win and catapulted her to fame. Tired of living from the expectations of others and being unable to carry the royal baggage that she carried all her life, Princess Ann decided to take matters into her own hands and escape from it even just for a day.

Filmed in the beautiful city of Rome, the movie follows the undercover adventures of Princess Ann and a journalist, played by Gregory Peck, as she tried to reclaim her freedom—even for a day. The famous scene of Princess Ann cutting her hair extremely short as a sign of rebellion will forever be imprinted in the minds of those who watched “Roman Holiday.”

Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

How does one go about Hepburn’s body of work without mentioning her iconic role as Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s?” Somewhat of an escort—as she accompanies men to dinners and such and with plans to marry a rich man—Holly is not one to back down without getting things her way. Her famous little black dress caused waves and is considered a wardrobe staple that never goes out of style. Holly Golightly is arguably the most famous character that Hepburn has ever played and has some of the most iconic lines like, “It’s a mistake you always make—trying to love a wild thing.”

Audrey’s characters were in a league of their own. During a time when women were expected to behave in a certain way, her characters deviated from the norm while still remaining classy and elegant. No one does it like Audrey, and perhaps no one ever will.
