IT WAS the first Friday of February when young Camiguin Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo took for his bride the lovely Ria Chan during afternoon rites at the Santuario de San Antonio Church in Forbes Park, Makati. Eight pairs of principal sponsors, led by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (now Speaker of the House) and past presidential candidate Gilberto Teodoro Jr., stood for the couple.

Ria, the daughter of Silverio and Teresita Chan of Camiguin, walked down the aisle in a beautiful gown by Jazel Sy. A nurse by profession, she completed her degree here in our Queen City. She is a close relation of the Chan family of doctors in Cebu.

XJ is the son of Mambajao Mayor Jurdin Jesus Romulado and Camiguin Gov. Ma. Luisa Romualdo. Yes, the Romualdos are in the forefront of Camiguin’s political scene. Needless to say, XJ and Ria’s love story had its beginnings in the idyllic island of Camiguin.

The wedding reception was a formal affair which started with cocktails and went on to dinner at the classy Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La At The Fort at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
