IN A bid to address student malnutrition, Lahug National High School (LNHS) (Night) launched a feeding program on Monday, July 7, 2025, targeting underweight Grade 7 students as part of its Nutrition Month celebration.

Led by feeding program coordinator Khim Zyrah Teñoso, the initiative was carried out in partnership with select Grade 11 Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) students who prepared and distributed the meals at the school’s cookery laboratory.

The effort was aimed not only to provide nourishment to students but also to raise awareness about healthy eating habits.

“Daghan mi’g nakat-unan and normal ra jud siya. Nindot sa feeling magluto kay makatabang sa mga bata (We learned a lot and it’s really just normal. It feels good to cook because it helps the kids),” said TVL student Mary Ashley Ursal, who assisted in the preparation.

Teñoso said the program was designed to help young learners develop healthier habits early on. The students involved in the cooking also gained practical experience while taking part in a cause that benefits their peers.

In addition to the feeding program, LNHS also opened a school bazaar featuring healthy food items prepared by various student clubs, including SSLG, GSP and Banwag Lahug.

The bazaar, held at the school gymnasium until Friday, July 11, promoted nutritious eating through affordable, accessible snacks and meals.

Grade 11 student Britney Baritugo shared her appreciation for the event: “Nice kaayo siya kay makapalit mi og (It was really nice because we were able to buy) fruits like apple, banana and more. Maka-open siya sa mind namo nga mo-eat og (It helped open our minds to the importance of eating) healthy foods.”

Both the feeding program and the bazaar were fully supported by school administrators and teachers. These initiatives reflect LNHS’ commitment to promoting student wellness and encouraging a culture of health among its learners. Fiona Baritugo Junior Journo / Lahug National High School
