LABOGON National High School topped four other district teams in Mandaue City’s Resilience Decathlon on July 31, testing students’ disaster preparedness, emergency response and teamwork skills.
Organized by the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO) in partnership with DepEd Mandaue City, the competition brought together 25 students from the Central, North, South, West 1 and West 2 districts.
It sought to strengthen students’ disaster preparedness and emergency response skills and their ability to respond effectively during emergencies.
MCDRRMO Research and Planning Division head Tashuana A. Villaflor said the competition was designed to highlight schools’ Emergency Response Team (ERT) capabilities and promote disaster preparedness beyond response operations.
“One of our goals is to showcase the ERT skills of our learners in the public high schools composed of 5 members per district. We want to empower by preparing them to respond effectively during emergencies,” Villaflor said.
The competition featured 10 emergency response stations, including knot-tying, “Stop the Bleed,” fire extinguisher use, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), communications, emergency shelter building, go-bag auditing, basic splinting, lifting and carrying, and a checklist pledge.
The winners are:
Champion: North District, represented by Labogon National High School — P12,000 and a plaque. The team members were Ceejay J. Francisco, Kurt E. Polar, Gabriel A. Tamonan, Jailybeh V. Sebial and Justyn Kriane R. Napire. Coaches were Christian B. Auman and Letessie A. Diano.
First runner-up: West 2 District, represented by Casili National High School — P10,000 and a plaque. The team was composed of Brent Auditor, Liana Shane Pedrano, Denisse Sofhia Arañiz, Krezll Gleian Carpio and Prince Charl Gaco, with coaches Jonrell A. Layos and Junrey A. Compacion.
Second runner-up: South District, represented by Cabancalan National High School — won P7,000 and a plaque. The team members were Justine Vince Degula, Christian Salon, Gerald Dela Torre, Gabriel Cabanlit and Xyrus Cenibal, with coaches Airel M. Coligado and Christopher M. Romeo.
Third and fourth runners-up: Maguikay National High School and Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School received consolation prizes of P5,000 each.
