ELEVEN pupils from a public elementary school in the southern town of Cebu landed in a hospital Tuesday afternoon, after they ate fruits of a jathropa plant locally known as tuba-tuba.

The pupils, ranging from grades three (8), four (2) and a grade six pupil, are from MontaƱeza Elementary School in Malabuyoc, Cebu.

Police said the pupils just had their lunch when they decided to wander outside the school and found the jathropa plant.

The kids then pluck the plant's nuts and ate it.

They returned to their respective classrooms but later experienced stomach pains and vomited.

Their teachers rushed them to a public hospital where they were treated.

They were declared out of danger by the attending doctor. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
