150 Yolanda survivors get lots, at long last

NEARLY five years after Typhoon Yolanda ravaged their homes, some residents in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island are finally getting houses again.

The Santa Fe Municipal Government and National Housing Authority (NHA) have started raffling off this month 150 out of more than 1,000 lots to typhoon survivors.

The 150 houses will be constructed in Barangay Maricaban.

In an interview, Santa Fe Mayor Jose Esgana said the construction of houses for typhoon survivors in his town has long been plagued by various problems and he was glad that it can finally take off.

The decision to raffle off the units was made by the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC) of the municipality, who also screened the beneficiaries.

“Gituyo sad namo nga ipa-raffle na lang kay para dili kabuot ang beneficiary kung asa nga unit iyaha (During the raffle, beneficiaries won’t be able to pick which site would be theirs),” Esgana said.

Aside from the 150 that are for completion this year, the NHA is set to construct more than 1,000 houses under the first phase of the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program. During the second phase, the NHA will construct 1,305 new houses for typhoon survivors. (JKV)
