FOR a 16-year-old boy, losing both parents and two brothers in a fire accident could be the most painful experience in his life.

Juvy John Masuela, 16, of Moalboal, Cebu, is the lone survivor of a family of five in a fire that hit their house midnight Sunday, September 20, 2020.

The bodies of Juvy's parents, Jonathan and Rosa, both 38, were found in their bedroom, while the remains of his two brothers, Jethro, 12, and Dyren, 14, were in the living room.

Juvy said their house had two bedrooms and he was sleeping in the other room, while his younger siblings slept with his parents.

He said he was awakened by the noise outside and when he opened the door he immediately closed it again because of the fire and smoke.

Juvy further narrated he removed the jalousies from the window of his room and escaped from there.

He said he was not aware if his parents and two younger brothers had escaped from the fire.

Fire Officer 2 Gibson Hortelano of the Moalboal Fire Station said the damage was estimated at P15,000.

"Kining naka-survive nga anak naningkamot siya maka-ambak sa bintana, kay aso unya init na kaayo. Wala siya magdahom nga nangapaig iyang ginikanan ug mga igsoon," said FO2 Hortelano.

According to Juvy's grandfather, Juanito Masuela, 67, who lives only five meters away from the victims, the fire razed the living room.

He said the fire quickly spread inside his son's home which was made of mixed materials.

Hortelano said the one-story house was not completely burned except for the rooms and the living room.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire. (GPL / AYB / BBT)
