(UPDATED) FIVE people were injured including three children after the multicab they were riding in fell off a ravine around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Sitio Napo, Barangay Sapangdaku in upland Cebu City.

Renzo del Rosario, data management chief of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), identified the injured as Joseber Albaracin, 60, Juanita Sandoval, 49, and their three grandchildren aged 4 to 9, both residents of C. Padilla Street, Barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City.

Albaracin and Sandoval were supposed to deliver a sofa worth P2,500 to Maricel Dejan in the area.

Albaracin got out of the multicab to deliver to sofa but the vehicle moved downhill towards the ravine with a depth of 20-30 feet.

Albaracin hurried back inside the car and applied a brake but failed to stop the car from moving until they fell into a ravine.

Albaracin said that he tried to manage the steering wheel and apply the brakes to avoid the car from falling but it was already late.

Sandoval, who was riding at the back, managed to jump out of the multicab before it fell leaving the three children behind.

She only sustained minor injuries.

Del Rosario said Albaracin and Sandoval sustained injuries while the three children were declared safe.

Residents who witnessed the incident believed Albaracin did not apply a hand brake.

Members of Emergency Medical Services arrived later and applied first aid treatment to the victims. (BBT, JGS, TPT)
