AT LEAST 35 individuals were arrested in Lapu-Lapu City over illegal gambling activities during the Holy Week.

Police Colonel Elmer Lim, director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), said they conducted 10 operations from April 3 to April 9, 2023 that resulted in the arrest of the 35 individuals.

Of the number, the LCPO operatives arrested 22 personalities for cockfighting, while the rest were due to mahjong, “swertres” and “hantak.”

Lim said this is part of their anti-illegal gambling campaign, wherein they also confiscated illegal gambling paraphernalia and cash amounting to P8,500.

He said the number of arrested individuals may be higher during the week if they did not conduct reminders or rekorida around the city.

“Despite ana, naa gihapo’y mga nagpabadlong... Siguro kon wala pa gyud ta, kana ng figure sa cockfighting mo-double or triple pa na siya kay nagtuo siguro sila’g legal na siya,” he added. (MKG)
