4 held in Bohol for transporting coco lumber without permit

AT least four persons were arrested in Lila town, Bohol for transporting coco lumber without a permit.

Those arrested were Mario Rara, 51, his nephew Creve Rara, 32, Wilson Candano, 39, and Alexis Cagalitan, 19.

Staff Sergeant Ronald Besinga of Lila Police Station told Sunstar Cebu that the four suspects riding an Elf vehicle were flagged down in a checkpoint that they conducted around 2 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022, and were asked to show a permit from Philippine Coconut Authority allowing them to transport coco lumber, but they could not provide any resulting to their arrest.

The four suspects are now facing Presidential Decree 10593, which prohibits the cutting of coconut trees under 60 years old for tall varieties and below 40 years old for dwarf varieties. (BBT, TPT)
