THE Capitol has allowed 169 establishments in Cebu Province to open their businesses under the modified general community quarantine status.
Based on the list released by the Provincial Tourism Office on Nov. 9, 2020, the provincial government has allowed 25 local government units to accept tourists who want to visit restaurants, scenic sites and resorts. These are the cities of Carcar and Danao, and the municipalities of Alcoy, Aloguinsan, Argao, Badian, Balamban, Bantayan, Barili, Boljoon, Carmen, Catmon, Compostela, Cordova, Dalaguete, Liloan, Medellin, Minglanilla, Moalboal, Oslob, Pinamungajan, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Santander and Sogod.
The Provincial Tourism Task Force conducted inspections on all local government units; only the two component cities and 23 municipalities passed the requirements on ensuring tourists’ safety amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the 25 local government units allowed to accept tourists again, the Cebu Provincial Government has opened up 50 percent of its jurisdiction to economic activities.
The political jurisdiction of Cebu Province covers 44 municipalities and six component cities. Excluded are the highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
Santa Fe tourism
The place with the most number of businesses allowed to operate again is Santa Fe in Bantayan Island.
At least 41 resorts and restaurants were reopened in Santa Fe. This number was followed by Oslob with 25 reopened businesses.
According to the 2019 Tourism Department report, Santa Fe was among the places in the country with a high volume of tourist visits. The town was visited by 168,519 tourists last year.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority officials will lead the mini edition of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo in Bantayan Island on Nov. 28.
