7-year-old child dies in Alegria road accident

A seven-year-old child died after being struck by a dump truck as he crossed the national road at 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, in Sitio Punong, Barangay Poblacion, Alegria town, southwest Cebu.

The victim was identified as first-grader Xander Quian Ramos Bayate.

The driver of the Hino dump truck, Darwin Maiinit Mahipos, 31, a resident of Barangay Candabong, Alcantara town, is currently held at the Alegria Police Station.

According to Staff Sergeant Canesio Amatril of the Alegria Police Station, the young boy abruptly crossed the street.

Mahipos said they were going to Ronda town after delivering sacks of rice in Malabuyoc town when the incident took place.

He claimed that the incident happened so quickly that he was unable to react.

The child died after being pinned under the truck.

Nobody also noticed when he crossed the street.

Amatril revealed that the child's father is a carpenter, while his mother is a teacher. (GPL, TPT)
