(UPDATED) -- Around 70 houses were destroyed by a fire that hit a residential area in Purok 3, Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, on Wednesday morning, December 5.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) -Central Visayas estimated the damage at P1 million. There are no reported injuries so far.

The BFP received the alarm at 10:20 a.m. and immediately raised it to second alarm at 10:25 a.m.

The fire department then raised it to third alarm at 10:27 a.m. and to Task Force Alpha at 10:45 a.m., which means fire trucks from the neighboring towns and cities were tapped to respond to the area.

Cebu City Fire Marshal Noel Ababon said the affected houses were made of light materials, which made the fire spread quickly. The area was also reportedly congested.

The blaze was placed under control at 11:15 a.m. (JOB)
