A TOTAL of 74 families in Argao town, Cebu have crossed the poverty line to become self-sufficient through the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 held a graduation program on Friday, April 28, 2023, to award the families who are now ready to embark on a “better” life.

“The graduation was a celebration of success. This means for the betterment of their families,” said Kerwin Macopia, the information officer of DSWD 7 in an interview with SunStar Cebu on Saturday, April 29.

The 4Ps is the government’s principal poverty-reduction program, which invests in the health, nutrition, and education of low-income households.

A household with three children receives around P1,400 or a total of P15,000 every year for five years.

To be considered self-sufficient, a 4Ps household should have enough income upon graduation with the capability to meet their daily needs based on the social welfare development indicators of DSWD.

“Through the program, we are investing human capital. Puhon kining mga bata makahuman og eskwela ug makatrabaho, makatabang sa ilang pamilya,” said Macopia.

(Soon enough when the kids of these households will graduate from school, hopefully, they will help their families.)

Argao Mayor Allan Sesaldo lauded the social welfare agency for the cash assistance and development program for the 4Ps beneficiaries.

“Mapasalamaton pud ang lungsod sa Argao sa mga benepisyaryo sa 4Ps nga naningkamot nga makapahuman sa ilang mga anak pinaagi sa tabang sa programa. Ang 74 nga ni graduate karun kay timaan sa success sa programa,” said Sesaldo on Friday, April 28.

(The local government of Argao is also thankful for the 4Ps beneficiaries who worked hard so their children could finish their education through the program. The 74 4Ps graduates are a sign of the success of the program.)

The mayor also pledged that the Municipal Council will help sustain the well-being of 4Ps graduates through various livelihood assistance and career opportunities in partnership with other government agencies.
