NO HONORS will be given to slain Senior Police Officer 1 Adonis Dumpit, said Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas on Friday, June 29.

"Wala siyay madawat nga benefits. Wala pud siyay police honors during his retirement. That is a bad example of being a policeman," said Sinas in a press conference.

Dumpit, a former close-in security of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, was killed Wednesday, June 27, in a joint operation by the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO-Central Visayas and National Bureau of Investigation Bohol.

Sinas said Friday that Wednesday's operation in Tagbilaran, Bohol was a legitimate one.

He said Dumpit's family will just receive the cash conversion of his unused or unpaid leaves. "The rest, wala na siyay madawat."

"Kung annulled siya, pwede iyang anak makadawat, if less than 21 years old. Kung buhi pa iyang nanay ug tatay, pwede sila makadawat," he added.

As to reports that Dumpit's close friends are afraid of visiting the police officer's wake because of possible surveillance, Sinas said they are not preventing them from going to the wake.

"Wala namo gibawalan, piktyuran lang namo sila para mahibaw-an namo kung sila kinsa nangadto sa haya (We are not preventing them from going to the wake. We will just take pictures of them so we will know who went there)," Sinas said.

The PRO-Central Visayas chief also said Friday that the firearm -- a caliber .45 pistol -- that Dumpit used when he was killed was registered to Barangay Tejero, Cebu City captain Jessielou Cadungog.

"The firearm, when we checked, kay dili sa iyaha. Ang iyahang gigamit nga caliber .45 is dili iyaha. Ang tag-iya sa iyahang pusil is a certain Jessilou Cadungog," he said, adding that they are checking the firearm history.

In a phone interview, Cadungog admitted that he was the owner of the firearm but sold it to Dumpit last year.

The gun was sold to Dumpit sometime in 2017 for P75,000, but the police officer only gave a downpayment of P25,000 to Cadungog.

Aside from the firearm, also recovered from Dumpit were 76.15 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, said Sinas.

"That's more or less more than a million," the PRO-Central Visayas chief said.

As to Osmeña's plan to give Dumpit a decent burial, Sinas said they have no problem with it.

"We will give respect to the dead but there are some procedures or protocols that we cannot give to him (Dumpit)," he said.

Osmeña said earlier that he had wanted to fulfill Dumpit's dream of getting back his dignity following the controversies he was facing.

He said he wants to give his best policeman a decent burial because the entire city owes Dumpit for maintaining peace and order in the city in the past. (SunStar Philippines/With reports from KAL/SunStar Cebu)
