AN ALLEGED hitman of detained "drug lord" Alvaro "Barok" Alvaro was killed in a shootout inside a police office past midnight Tuesday, July 17, in Danao City, Cebu.

Police Officer 1 Gypsy Miro, desk officer, identified the fatality as Jerandy Montes Mediquillo, who succumbed to three gunshot wounds in the body.

Before the alleged shooutout happened, Miro said Mediquillo went to the temporary Danao City Police Station around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, and posed as a member of the military looking for three intelligence officers.

Mediquillo was wearing an army shirt, camouflage pants and combat boots and asked for Senior Police Officer 1 Reynante Manulat, Police Officer 3 Phil Restauro and Police Officer 2 Mark Anthony Mata.

When he did not find them, Mediquillo then went to the old police station, which was burned in January 2015. He went inside the intelligence unit's office located at the back and asked about the three officers' whereabouts.

Mata, who was around with another police officer, did not identify himself.

Miro said Mata instead told the suspect that Restauro and Manulat were not around.

Mata then called the attention of other police officers about the presence of a suspicious-looking man.

While they were on their way out of the office, Mediquillo allegedly pulled his firearm and opened fire.

The police officers, including Mata, took cover and retaliated, hitting Mediquillo.

They brought Mediquillo to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City, but the attending doctor declared him dead.

A .45 pistol was recovered from Mediquillo who was the alleged killer of Jose Manulat and his wife sometime in May 2016.

Miro said investigators theorized that Mediquillo was possibly mad at intelligence operatives, who are active in the anti-illegal drug campaign in Danao City.
